Dogs that don’t shed hair

Are you sure the house where the dog lives cannot do without fur? Did you know there are dog breeds that don’t shed their fur? Choosing such a breed will significantly help those who care about sterile order at home, which is sometimes tricky when you have a dog under your care. Moreover, choosing a dog from the group of indicated breeds is also an excellent solution for people suffering from allergies.

Which dogs don’t shed hair?

Living with the dog by your side is excellent. Having a loving four-legged friend is something that I wish for each of you. However, you cannot deny that the dog has many duties.

I especially feel it during home cleaning, when it’s time to vacuum. That’s when I wonder which dogs don’t shed their hair. My pet does not belong to this group.

When I decided to take a dog under my care, I was fully aware of the responsibilities that came with it. Including the fact that the dogs lose their hair. Some more, some less. Although this is not a big problem for me, I know it is a significant issue for some.

Therefore, instead of getting nervous at the mere thought of constant vacuuming, choosing a breed of dog that sheds relatively little hair is worth choosing. This is important not only for those who put the perfect cleanliness of the house in the first place. Such a dog will also be ideal if you are allergic.

Which dogs don’t shed hair at all – is that possible?

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is no. It would be biologically impossible. Dog hair behaves much like our human hair. Their loss is as natural as possible, and we cannot remedy it.

However, I want to point out that some breeds of dogs are characterized by the fact that they shed less than others. Moreover, there are also breeds in which shedding is even very severe.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that some dogs without fur will need additional protection against the cold. Depending on the specifics of a given breed, a dog sweater, jacket or sweatshirt may work well.

Which dogs don’t shed their hair – breed list

I present you the dog breeds that shed very little hair. However, I want you to know that whether or not your dog will be shedding intensively depends on you.

Choosing one of the following dog breeds will not guarantee that your pet will not be affected by hair loss problems. Proper dog hair care plays an equally important role here. Don’t forget about it.

A Yorkshire terrier called Yorkie

This breed’s small size and highly charming appearance are characteristic of this breed. Yorkshire Terriers shed very little hair, especially if you take good care of your dog. Regular brushing and care are essential.

It is worth mentioning that this is a breed of dog whose hair is constantly growing. Therefore, even though he does not lose his hair, it requires regular visits to the dog’s hairdresser. You have to keep this in mind when taking care of Yorkie.

Poodle

Although it is a breed with incredibly lush and compelling hair, it belongs to those who shed minimally.

In the case of the Poodle breed, hair care is similar to Yorkie. It would be best to groom your dog regularly, approximately every one to two months. Nevertheless, if you want your house not to be full of hair, I think this solution is worth it.

Basenji

This is a breed slightly different from the two I mentioned earlier. Basenji belongs to the group of smooth-haired dogs. What’s more, dogs of this breed are characterized by taking great care of their hygiene.

Therefore, keeping the house with Basenji clean does not require a lot of work on your part. First, you must take care of the canine’s cleanliness.

Maltese

Maltese hair is wonderfully soft and super friendly to the touch. Nevertheless, the coat of this breed tends to get matted. Therefore, regular brushing is the basis for the care of this breed.

Of course, as with other breeds with hair, Maltese will also need regular groomer visits.

– Mexican hairless dog

As the name suggests, dogs of this breed have negligible hair. They are almost entirely smooth. However, this breed’s dogs require intensive skin care despite lacking hair. He is exposed to injuries and direct action of external factors, such as the sun, without fur protection.

So as you can see, the lack of hair does not mean the absence of problems related to the intensive care of your quadruped.

– Chinese crested dog

The appearance of dogs of this breed is exciting. They lack hair on several body parts and highly lush hair on the paws, head and tail. This combination makes the Chinese Crested Dog one of the dogs that do not shed their fur. The hair on the previously mentioned parts of the dog’s body requires regular trimming.

What to do to reduce hair loss?

If you want your four-legged friend to shed as little hair as possible, you must pay special attention to its care.

A healthy and shiny pet’s coat will be much less prone to falling out. So what should you remember?

– healthy diet

Undoubtedly, your dog’s daily diet dramatically impacts the condition of his coat. A deficiency of vitamins and microelements affects not only its dull appearance. That may be the main reason for the dog’s increased hair loss.

You can choose special dog supplements if you cannot provide your dog with all the necessary nutrients through diet.

brushing

Even for dogs that shed little fur, regular brushing is essential. It is usual for dogs to shed dead hair, so it is better to get rid of it during regular brushing.

If your pet runs away at the sight of a brush, a good solution is special gloves with insets for combing. That is a very clever solution. It consists of the fact that while stroking the dog, we brush it simultaneously.

care

How you care for your dog’s coat also impacts your skin. It would be best to tailor grooming to your pet’s hair type. Choosing the right cosmetics is very important. Also, remember about regular baths – you can find tips on how to bathe your dog without significant problems on our blog. If unsure how often to clean your pet, it is best to ask your veterinarian. He will indicate a rational schedule for caring for your dog in the water.

The frequency of bathing depends on the breed of the dog and, of course, whether your dog is a typical filthy dog. My dog is often so dirty after a walk that there is no solution but an extra bath.

– haircut

Not every dog needs a haircut. However, if your pet’s hair needs trimming, you need to remember about regularity. You can, of course, do it yourself. However, if your hairdressing skills are imperfect, use a groomer’s help.

Regular trimming will help you to reduce hair loss in your dog. A well-groomed, trimmed coat will not tangle. What’s more, brushing it will be much easier.

Now you know dogs that don’t shed

The fact that a given breed will not shed hair does not mean it will require less involvement in caring for the bristles. On the contrary, very often, such dogs have additional duties.

Namely, most dogs that do not shed hair will require regular haircuts. That involves finding a lot of extra time – cutting your pet yourself or visiting the groomer with him.

What is your approach to dog hair at home? Do you prefer to take your pet to the groomer regularly, or do you like regular vacuuming of the fur at home?
