How often should you replace the dog’s bed

How can you be sure when to replace your four-legged friend’s bed with a new one? To find out, you must pay attention to some crucial issues. Often a good solution is to replace only the bed cover.

It would be best if you replaced the dog bed with a frequency depending on the degree of wear of the bed. Good quality beds can perform their function well even for several years. Sometimes a good solution is to replace only the top cover in the lair if its filling is still in excellent condition.

What you will learn from this article:

  • Replace the dog bed depending on the degree of its wear
  • Good quality bedding will serve your dog much longer
  • If the filling of the lair is ok, you can replace the cover itself

Dog bed replacement

Convenience and comfort during the night are the basis for the healthy sleep of your four-legged friend. To ensure your dog’s bed fully meets all his needs, you must take his choice very seriously. If you do not know what you should pay attention to when choosing a bed for your dog, I refer you to my other post devoted to this subject, which you will find HERE.

In this post, I would like to focus on a topic directly related to sending your dog, but unfortunately very often overlooked. Namely, I want to tell you how often you should replace your dog’s bed.

Do you know the answer to this question, or do you have any guesses? If so, write me your reply in the comment at the end of the article. I am very interested in your opinion.

Should a dog only have one bed?

Some of you probably wonder why I often mention that my four-legged friend has two beds. A lot of dogs have only one bed in their home space. It’s not like a grave error; I don’t admit it.

In my opinion, it is more like that having more than one bed for a dog is an addition that makes life easier for a pet. My dog loves to take an after-dinner nap. Then, in place of his sleep, he chooses a dog pillow in the living room. Then he can calmly nap, knowing he is right next to me.

However, when evening comes, my dog goes to his lair located in my bedroom. It’s where I feel safer at night. The awareness that we are beside him makes his sleep much more peaceful and effective.

For this reason, I cannot imagine a situation where my four-legged friend would have only one bed in my house. In his case, I will always ensure that he has a bed at his disposal, both in the house’s main room and the bedroom.

What is the unquestionable advantage that my dog has two beds? Indeed, it is the fact that their degree of wear will be much lower than it would be if the dog had only one bed at his disposal. Thanks to this, I can exchange my dog’s bed for a new one much less often.

What’s more, I can wash the covers on the bed without fear because, in such a situation, the dog always has a second bed at his disposal, where he can take a nap.

How often to replace the dog bed

Is there a predetermined time after which the dog bed should be discarded and replaced with a new one? Unfortunately not, although I think it would be a very convenient solution. In that case, how can you know if your four-legged friend’s bed is already suitable for exchange? To be sure, you must pay attention to a few essential things.

First, whether your pooch has one or more beds in your home is crucial. Because my dog has two beds, their degree of wear is much less. Therefore, in this case, you can replace the bed less often than if you had one piece.

The dog’s approach to his lair is also essential. My pet only sleeps on his bed. Unfortunately, I know some dogs tend to bite and thus destroy their things. In such cases, you must replace the bed much more often.

Remember not to leave damaged items to the dog under any circumstances. Why? Because, for example, the dog may try to pull out the filling inside. As a result, your entire apartment can be covered with what is inside the lair. Even worse, your four-legged friend may try to eat pieces of filler, which is very dangerous for his life or health.

Assess the condition of the dog bed

How often you should replace your dog’s bed with a new one depends on its condition. That’s why you must learn to assess your dog’s bed’s wear objectively. How can you tell when it is replaceable? If, as I mentioned before, it is in several pieces, it is time to buy a new bed.

The situation is similar if your dog’s bed has lost its original shape. Your dog is undoubtedly much less pleasant to sleep on a liar that no longer performs its functions as well as it should.

However, if, according to your assessment, your four-legged friend’s bed is in excellent condition, there is no point in replacing it unjustifiably. If you have decided to buy a high-quality dog bed, it can be in perfect condition for a long time.

Therefore, I recommend carefully inspecting your dog’s bed before replacing it with a new model.

Wash your dog’s bed

Before replacing your dog’s bed with a new model, ensure the stains are indestructible. It often seems to us that some dirt is impossible to clean. However, it often happens that this is our illusory belief and thanks to the appropriate cleaning method, we can get rid of unwanted stains.

Therefore, before you delete your dog’s bed, thoroughly clean it. Perhaps you have too hastily assessed your dog’s bed as unusable.

Replace the bed cover only

An alternative to a pile of new beds is replacing the cover. Many brands that create dog accessories give their customers just such an opportunity. If the filling of your dog’s bed is in excellent condition, and the top layer has been damaged, this will be the perfect solution.

It is also impossible not to mention that it is a very ecological approach to the subject. In this way, we avoid throwing away the part of the product that is still fit for use.

The dog bed is always in good condition.

If you want your dog’s bed to serve him longer, you must also care for it properly. However, if your dog’s bed no longer fulfils its function well, do not hesitate to replace it with a new one. I’m sure your dog will thank you.
