Dog mascot
What does your canine like to play with the most? Each dog has his character and, thus, his preferences on many topics. Not every dog will enjoy the same thing, and that’s completely normal.
If your dog likes to spend his free time playing with mascots, it’s good that this toy is not accidental. Although it may seem that choosing a dog toy is not complicated, a few issues are worth paying particular attention to.
Therefore, if you do not know the suitable mascot for your four-legged friend, I would like to tell you what is essential when choosing and what is a bit less. I am sure you want your dog’s toy to be durable and fully meet your pet’s needs.
What is a good mascot for a dog
It might seem that choosing a dog toy is not a particularly big challenge. We consider its appearance and purpose; in theory, we can stop there. However, there is nothing more wrong. There are several essential aspects that, in my opinion, have a significant impact on the dog’s enjoyment of playing.
Therefore, I would like to tell you about choosing a mascot for your dog. Thanks to this, you will undoubtedly be able to find a toy for your four-legged friend that will make his free time pleasant and, at the same time, will serve him much longer than just one afternoon.
It happened to me in the past that my dog could damage his toy on the first day after receiving it. I would like to immediately point out that this is not a dog who tends to spoil his things. Therefore, when he destroyed the toy after one play, I wondered why.
I want to tell you about my mistakes so that you can choose the best mascot for your four-legged friend.
The quality of the dog mascot
For me, the basis for choosing a new toy for my dog is the quality of its craft. I prefer to invest more in a mascot made with the utmost care, which will last my pet longer than buying a new one occasionally.
Therefore, I do not judge the selected toy in the visual aspect but after how it was designed and made. First, in the case of mascots, we should avoid glued elements. That is often the case with the toy’s eyes or nose.
For my canine, peeling off the glued elements would take a few minutes. I’m sure your dog would be very similar. The dog would undoubtedly eat such an element. Such a situation could have tragic consequences for your four-legged friend’s health or life.
For this reason, I choose only those dog mascots whose eyes, nose or mouth are elements made of sewn-in yarn. That is a more secure solution. It would not be easy for a dog to unfasten them.
A finish in the form of embroidery characterizes good-quality mascots for dogs in most cases. Also, pay attention to whether the elements of the mascot are firmly sewn together. Are the mascot’s paws and head well attached to the body so they will not fall apart at the first stronger pull of the dog while playing?
Dog mascot shape
Does the shape of the mascot for your dog matter? In my opinion, yes. After checking the mascot’s quality, I noticed what it looked like. I know my four-legged friend well; he can be scared of a toy. That’s why I don’t choose what I like the most, but most of all, I take into account my dog’s taste.
A common mistake made when choosing a mascot for a dog is to be guided only by your preferences. Your dog does not have to have the same taste as you so that you like something does not mean he must too.
I noticed that my dog is very fond of animal-shaped mascots. These are the ones that give muses the most joy. He likes toys in classic shapes, such as a cube, a little less.
Therefore, if your four-legged friend does not want to play with his mascot, the problem may be the toy’s shape, not his lack of willingness to play. So, do not immediately delete mascots if your dog has not positively received any.
Try a toy of a different shape or even colour. Unfortunately, often dog guardians assume that the colour of the pet’s accessories does not matter because our quadrupeds do not distinguish between individual colours. Nothing could be more wrong. Yes, dogs perceive colours in a completely different way than humans. They are less sensitive to them. However, this does not mean that they are utterly indifferent to them.
If you would like to learn more about the meaning of colours for your pet and how a dog sees, I refer you to my other post, which you will find HERE. This knowledge will undoubtedly be helpful to you when you buy a new mascot for your dog, but also in the case of other dog accessories.
Dog mascot filling
Another essential aspect you should pay attention to when choosing a mascot for your four-legged friend is what is inside the toy. Admit it, until now. You weren’t aware that what’s inside your dog’s toy matters? Initially, having under my care a four-legged friend, I did not pay any attention to it. However, as it turns out, very wrong.
What is inside your dog’s mascot directly impacts his joy of playing. I especially recommend dog mascots with a rustling filling. As you probably know, dogs have a much more developed sense of hearing. Therefore, the rustle created while playing with such a toy is extremely attractive to your dog’s ear.
You can find toys with a rustling insert in the Bowl&Bone Republic assortment.
