Puppy’s first days at home
When you know that a little puppy will appear in your house, you are already counting the days until that moment. I remember that feeling of excitement well. I wanted my puppy to feel as good as possible with me. However, this first time the dog in my home also caused me anxiety. I was afraid I could take care of such a puppy as he needed it.
Before I decided to take a dog under my care, I gathered a lot of information on this subject. It was the first dog I was supposed to take care of on my own, which is why it was such an important and stressful experience.
The opportunity to benefit from the experience and sound advice of others is significant and helpful in caring for a dog. Therefore, especially for you, I have prepared a few tips to help you cope with the first moments of a puppy in your home.
I will tell you what the first days with such a small quadruped look like and what is worth paying attention to. I hope this will make you feel calmer and more confident in this new phase of your life that you are about to enter. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you, and I’m sure you’ll be fine!
How to prepare the house for the arrival of a puppy
If you want to save yourself a lot of unnecessary stress, prepare your home correctly before the puppy arrives. Thanks to this, you will avoid many unpleasant situations when a small dog may try to bite or destroy something.
Puppies have a lot of energy and a great desire to explore the world around them. That’s why I assure you that your little pet will try to get into almost every corner. Therefore, to avoid unpleasant situations, prepare the space around you for the appearance of a small pet.
Organize the space in the lower parts of the house
Hide items your puppy can access. I mean both the floor and the low shelves. That’s already a known fact: many puppies bite shoes they find on the floor. Unfortunately, I must admit that this is not just a repeated myth. My dog chewed one pair of my boots during his puppy period.
You might be wrong if you think your puppy will only be satisfied with what he finds on the ground. When something interests him on the shelves within his reach, you can be sure he will try to get to it.
Hide the cables
I have the impression that right after shoes, cables are one of the most frequently chosen items to be chewed by small puppies. In the first week, my puppy destroyed two phone chargers.
Of course, I would hide them if they were connected to the power supply. However, when I wasn’t using them, my vigilance was less. Opposite to my pet. As soon as he noticed a cable within his reach, he decided that it was something he had to play with.
Therefore, before a small puppy appears in your home, check your apartment I any cables are within his reach. Try to keep them where the dog cannot access them. Biting wires can be hazardous for a dog.
In most cases, the dogs’ interest in all kinds of cables disappears as they grow out of the puppy period in their lives.
Prepare a sanctuary for your puppy
When a puppy appears in a new home, he may initially feel confused and scared. That is normal because he is in a new place that he is entirely unfamiliar with. Therefore, your task as a dog guardian will be to prepare an asylum for your puppy where he can feel safe.
Where is the best place to create this kind of space for a small dog? First, it should be a place where the puppy can observe what is happening around him. Thanks to this, he will feel confident because he will not be afraid that someone will suddenly surprise him.
Choose a comfortable bed for your puppy, which will be a great observation point. The bed must be of excellent quality because, as you can probably guess, the dog may try to chew it.
Therefore, from my experience, I can recommend the CLASSIC line bed from the Bowl&Bone Republic brand. It was my dog’s first bedding, and I have to admit that it worked perfectly for him.

What are the puppy’s first days at home like?
It would be best if you prepared that the puppy’s first days in your home can be difficult for you and your pet. That is a new situation for you that you have to get used to.
Give your puppy some space
In the first days of the appearance of a small puppy in your home, try not to be too absorbing for him. I know it can be challenging because it’s tough not to pet and cuddle a little puppy all the time. However, give him some space to gain more confidence for his sake.
However, that doesn’t mean you have to leave your puppy alone. You couldn’t be more wrong. Surely you know very well how much attention such a little dog needs. It is essential in this situation to keep an eye on him all the time, but in such a way that he does not feel cornered.
Make sure he has some time just for himself to have fun in your own company, to get to know a new area on your own, in a word for your dog matters.
At the same time, be close enough to react quickly in an unforeseen situation.
Show your puppy his new home
For the dog to feel good and safe in the new space, he must get to know it well. How to encourage a small dog to walk around his new home without fear? You can put some of his favourite treats on the floor in each room. In this way, the dog will visit every corner, and thanks to the joys, he will have good associations with this place.
It is also an excellent method to familiarize your dog with a new space when away from home. That is how I always tame the dog on vacation when we spend the night in an unknown place. First, I entered our accommodation and spread the treats on the floor. Then I let my pet enter, and he, going from one taste to another, gets to know a new place.
Be patient with your puppy
The appearance of a puppy in the house can change your everyday life for good. However, I assure you that it is temporary. As soon as the dog grows up and becomes independent, your daily rhythm will be able to return to normal.
However, it will require a lot of patience from you. Teaching your puppy the basics and rules of your home can be very difficult. Young dogs want to focus on having fun.
From my own experience, I know that the first days of a puppy can be challenging. However, I assure you it is worth being patient and consistently dedicating time to raising this little rascal.
How to take care of your puppy when he comes home
Taking care of a puppy will require a lot of commitment from you. That is a critical decision, but I think that taking a pet under your supervision is a wonderful thing. A great friendship awaits you.
