What vegetables are good for a dog?

By creating a daily menu for your pet, you certainly want to be sure that you provide it with all the necessary vitamins and microelements. In addition to food and delicacies, it is important that the dog’s diet also includes vegetables and fruits. They are a perfect complement to the pooches menu.

Of course, you need to know that not all vegetables and fruits are suitable for a dog. Only some of them are well absorbed by the dog’s body. If you want to know what fruit your pet can eat, read the entry that is fully devoted to this issue. However, today I will present to you vegetables, that are good for your dog.

What vegetables can a dog eat?

If you carefully choose food for your pet, you have certainly noticed that in their composition, next to the meat, there are vegetables. This does not mean, however, that you can then give up giving the pooch vegetables in full form. Remember that their amount contained in the dog’s feed is too small to be sure that our pet’s diet is fully balanced.

– carrots are the perfect vegetable for a dog

My doggy likes carrots. I think I can say with certainty that this is his favorite type of vegetable. Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin C and melatonin. Its unique, slightly sweet taste makes it liked by most of the dogs I know.

– a cucumber as a dog treat

This is another vegetable that due to its taste will suit most pooches. Cucumbers contain potassium, magnesium, as well as vitamins C, K, and B1. We can include them in the group of light vegetables due to their low-calorie content, but also a very mild taste.

– sweet potatoes better than regular potatoes

Sweet potatoes, unlike ordinary potatoes, are well seen in the pooches’ diet. They contain, among others, vitamin C and B6. Sweet potato is one of those vegetables that due to their high nutritional value will be a perfect complement to our pet’s balanced diet.

– pumpkin – a sweet snack for your pet

Its sweet taste, just like in the case of carrots, makes dogs willing to choose this type of vegetable. Pumpkin is a rich source of beta carotene, as well as vitamins C and A. Especially in the autumn and winter, it is perfect as part of our pooches’ menu.

It goes well with meat bites. I like to add pumpkins to homemade cakes for my pet. If you want to know my recipe, I invite you to post about making your own dried delicacies for our dog, which you will find HERE.

– broccoli – not for all pets

Broccoli due to its rather characteristic taste will not be recognized by all dog foodies. Nevertheless, if your pet accepts them, it’s worth smuggling them into his diet. Broccoli is rich in vitamins C and K. They support dogs’ joints and bones, and also lower cholesterol.

These vegetables are not good for the dog

It is worth remembering that not all vegetables that are on our tables every day are good for our dogs. Some of them are very harmful to pets and can cause many unwanted side effects.

The fact that a vegetable harms the pooch’s health does not mean that it will not taste good for your pet. Therefore, it is up to you as a guardian to carefully control the ingredients appearing in your pet’s diet.

– onion and garlic

These vegetables contain thiosulphate which has side effects in the pooches’ body. It has a destructive effect on white and red blood cells. Its excessive amount can cause many diseases such as anemia or tachycardia.

– tomato

This inconspicuous vegetable, very liked by people, should under no circumstances be part of the dog’s menu. Your pet do not cope with proper digestion of tomatoes. As a result, their consumption can cause acute indigestion in our pet.

– mushrooms

Although the topic is about vegetables, but I think it is also worth raising the issue of mushrooms. I strongly advise against giving them to our four-legged friends. Even those edible to humans are unsuitable for dogs. Mushrooms are very hard digested for your pet, so they can cause stomach pain. They can also weaken our pet’s nervous system.

– rhubarb and sorrel

This group of vegetables is very unsuitable for pooches. Oxalic acid has very negative effects on the four-legged body. It can cause many diseases such as kidney stones, among others.

What if the pooch doesn’t want to eat vegetables?

Vegetables should be a good and valuable supplement to your daily diet. Unfortunately, it is not always the case that everything healthy meets our taste tastes. The situation is very similar in the case of our pets. They are not always willing to eat the vegetables and fruits served to them.

So how to smuggle these important ingredients into their diet? Serve vegetables only with pieces of meat. Doggy is more likely to eat such a combined meal. I try to add vegetables for the dog to homemade treats. This works great especially with vegetables, which the pooch does not want to eat even in the company of meat.

If you want to convince a pooch to eat vegetables, you should also take care of the way you are feeding. It is known that a meal served in a nice dish will taste much better. This method also works for pooches. You have certainly noticed that when you give your pet food in a new bowl, his joy of eating is greater 🙂

That is why I think that it is worth investing in a good quality dog bowl. I always choose those that have removable metal inserts. They are more convenient to use and clean.

The Bowl&Bone Republic brand offers a wide range of dog bowls. Exclusive wooden bowls from the DUO line available in four different colors are not only incredibly functional, but also give a unique style to any interior.

What do you think about adding vegetables to diversify your four-legged diet? I encourage comments. I would love to hear your opinion on dog’s culinary tastes.
