Which dog fits you best – let’s find out

Which dog suits me best

The friendship between a dog and a human is an example of a wonderful, sincere, selfless bond. However, building this relationship requires a commitment from both, the dog and its guardian. A lot depends on your characters and personification. It is worth knowing, already at the stage of choosing a pet, what kind of dog suits you.

Building a bond together is not always easy. It needs time and willingness from both sides. Unfortunately, sometimes a dog and a human have such different characters that it can be really difficult for them to create the kind of relationship they dream of.

It is a good idea to opt for a dog that has a similar personality and needs to you. Spending time together will be more fun if you can focus on what you and your pet both really enjoy. This will make your everyday life easier and avoid unwanted arguments.

Find out which dog suits you

There are several factors that go into determining what kind of dog is right for you. If you want to have a full picture of what kind of dog you should choose, you need to think about each of them. I will try to give you an overview of all of them and discuss their individual importance.

Remember, however, that every dog is different. It is likely that the dog you choose will behave slightly differently from the generally accepted pattern for that breed.

– is physical activity important to you?

This is one of the first questions you should ask yourself before taking a dog into your care. Firstly, some dogs need a very large amount of exercise in their daily lives. If they don’t have the opportunity to use up their energy reserves they will be very unhappy.

Secondly, for some breeds the situation is just the opposite. You may be dealing with typical sofa pets. Are you looking for a companion to run together or go for long walks? You should opt for a dog that likes to be active.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can’t take your bulldog for a longer hike from time to time. It is even advisable. However, if you want your dog to be able to keep up with your active lifestyle, then it would not be a good idea to choose a Mongrel, Pekingese, French Bulldog or Boston Terrier.

– how much time you spend at home with dog

I think every dog guardian wants to spend as much time as possible with his pet. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the opportunity to spend every free moment with our beloved pet. What is more, some dog breeds especially appreciate the time they can spend alone. A moment just for themselves is very important for them.

On the other hand, some breeds are very attached to their owner. If they are left alone at home, they do not tolerate solitude very well.

Therefore, if you decide to take a dog into your care, it is very important what time schedule you work. It is also important how much time you spend at home. If you spend a lot of time at work, then breeds such as the white terrier, west highland or cocker spaniel will not be a good choice.

Of course, no matter what breed your doggy is, you shouldn’t leave him at home alone for long periods of time unattended. However, breeds such as the French bulldog or the pugs are definitely a better choice if you go out for a few hours every day to work.

– how big is space you live in with your pooch?

You are certainly familiar with the myth that no breed of dog is suitable for living in a block of flats. Of course, this is not true. However, there is no denying that the square footage of the place you live in does matter. It depends very much on the size of your pet. Everyone needs their own space, and this also applies to our pets.

Dogs need a place that they will treat as their own refuge. Therefore, you as the guardian must take care of this. Your pet should have such a corner, just for itself in your home. This has a direct impact on your dog’s sense of security and peace of mind.

So, when deciding to care for a really big dog, consider whether your home will accommodate at least one bed, an appropriately sized bowl, and regardless of your dog’s age, a few favourite toys.

You can’t assume that your dog will have his place a little here and there. He needs to feel that this place is his own safety zone. In a space that is not too big, dog bedding in a simple, classic form from the URBAN line from Bowl&Bone Republic will be perfect.

Remember that a dog bed can be not only useful but also pleasing to the eye. If you want to choose a good bed that suits your pooch’s needs, I recommend you to the post where I discuss all types of dog beds. Click HERE.

– do you or your close family have children?

Dogs’ attitudes towards children can vary dramatically. Some adore the little ones and treat them as the most important members of the family. They feel responsible for keeping the child safe. They love family atmosphere and are happy to spend time in the company of children. To the group of dogs characterised by such features we can count such breeds as Labrador, Beagle or Golden Retriever.

It is worth mentioning, however, that there are also such breeds which do not tolerate the presence of children and are very negatively disposed towards them. Therefore, if you have a child yourself or if there are children in your family with whom you have a lot of contact, be very careful when choosing a dog. Breeds that do not like children include the yorkshire terrier, shar pei and chow chow.

– have you already been a dog guardian?

Taking care of a living being is a very responsible matter. If you don’t take good care of your dog, you may make your pet unhappy and his needs may not be fully met. Some dog breeds require a lot of work to raise.

They are characterised by extreme difficulty in setting up. That’s why I don’t recommend you to choose a difficult breed if you haven’t had any experience with taking care of a pet before.

To the group of extremely demanding breeds we can include such dogs as: Shiba Inu, Akita or Alaskan Malamute. These dogs can be very hard on someone who has not had a pet under their care before. So if you decide to become a dog guardian for the first time, choose a breed which will not be so demanding. Perhaps in this case you should choose a Labradoodle, Border Collie or classic mongrel.
